THE SACRIFICES OF GOD ARE A broken SPIRIT;
A broken AND A CONTRITE HEART,
O GOD, YOU WILL NOT DESPISE
Psalm 51:17
Broken Offering is our collective cry of surrender and submission to God and the culmination of a season that yielded new songs and melodies. The title, taken after the song of the same name, is derived from Psalm 51:17—which describes a sacrifice that God delights in; not a polished or perfect offering, but rather one that is broken. Despite the imperfection of all that we bring Him, it is the commitment of our hearts to give Him every single piece because He still delights in it and deems it valuable. This is our broken offering to Him.
In December of 2022, we invited our friends and family to a night of live worship—The Gathering—where we introduced these songs for the very first time. This album is the recorded experience of that very same night.
The fruit depicted in our album artwork is a visual representation of sin and the brokenness of humanity (Adam and Eve's fall in Genesis). With fruit being a common form of gift-giving and offering in many Asian cultures, it is also a soft reflection of our team's Asian-American background. Finally, the gold signifies value and worth—an embodiment of the same value that God ascribes to our imperfect offering.
